Black Knight is a Marvel character with a legacy connected to King Arthur and wielding the Ebony Blade. Sir Percy of Scandia was the original Black Knight, a knight of King Arthur's court.
Dane Whitman, the nephew of the villain Nathan Garrett (who briefly used the Black Knight mantle), inherited the Ebony Blade. Whitman first appeared in *The Avengers* #47 (December 1967) and sought to redeem the Black Knight name.
The Ebony Blade, while powerful, is cursed; it corrupts its wielder over time. Dane Whitman has struggled with this curse throughout his adventures, battling its influence and striving to use the blade for good. He's been a member of the Avengers and other superhero teams.
